ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 WG42 (Architecture) has initiated a new work item in the area of evaluation of software and system architectures, tentatively to be: ISO/IEC 42030, Systems and software engineering — Architecture evaluation. This document builds upon the foundation of ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010:2011 (current edition of IEEE 1471:2000), the international standard on architecture description.

What's new?

Next meeting of WG42: 27–31 May 2013, at ISO/IEC JTC 1 SC7 Annual Plenary Meeting, École de Technologie Supérieure, Montréal CANADA

Updated: Architecture evaluation bibliography [pdf]

Call for inputs

We are seeking both research and industrial experience in defining and conducting architecture evaluations. In particular, we are looking for definition of evaluation approaches, experiments and practical results from evaluating system and/or software architectures, means to evaluate functional, quality and other aspects of architectures, artifacts/deliverables capturing results of evaluations and tool usage in support of architecture evaluation.

The draft New Work Item Proposal identifies Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method (ATAM) and Software Architecture Review and Assessment (SARA) as well-known starting points. We are interested in experiences and lessons learned applying these approaches, as well as others.
